We had a Honda Wave 125 which we brought in 2007, and it’s still running in good condition. The speedometer cable already broke off so I wasn’t able to get a exact mileage reading of it now. Also in 1990, my grandfather had a Honda TMX 155, Don’t know the mileage now, but it was his workhorse for hauling fire wood since then until his retirement in that work around 2010. It’s been in our house since, and I have not cranked it up since 2015. But I’m quite sure if I do a little bit if cleaning and fixing the rotting rubber seal in the carb I would be able to fire it up again. Honda is just that durable.
This is only a remote case scenario, and I’m only attesting to my observations here in my small city of Dumaguete. Most of the cars her are now the new ones but there are those old cars that are still running on our roads, of course I’ve also notice these cars before when I was a little younger. One limitation though is that these might not be the same cars that I saw before, but they are of the same mark and model. From the most to least: 1991–2002 Toyota Corolla (That includes the AE90s and AE100s, but most common is the AE101) 1992–95 Honda Civic (some EG4, or EG5, some EG6, most badges are off so I’m not sure about which is which, but most definitely Fifth Gen Civic) 1996–2000 Honda Civic (But I haven’t seen any EK9 Type Rs here, but who knows most of them are debadged) 1991–95 Mitsubishi Lancer (most of them are GLXs, and I haven’t see any Evo here at all) 1991–99 Mitsubishi Pajero (most of them are the two-door versions, Fieldmasters, Limited Editions, etc) 1990–94 Nissan Sentra (B13) 1990–2000 Kia Pride (you know these little cars are re-badged Ford Festiva, but believe it or not, they are here running in our streets). I don’t know where the RAV4s and the Land Cruizers have gone, there were plenty when I was growing up, but I’ve seem some occasionally but not as plenty as those mentioned above. Perhaps RAV4s and Land Cruizers were already abused in off-roading. But really, the most prevalent mode of transport here in our city are motorcycles, that’s why we are regarded as the motorcycle capital of the Philippines. And the honor for making the most reliable and most used motorcycles here goes to: 1976–2014 Honda TMX 155 (Tricycle Model Extreme) you know how Honda name their stuff. But this 155cc motorcycle was intended for the Philippine market, not only it is small and economical, but it really is powerful. It can pull a sidecar weighing a ton, with eight average Filipino passengers (around 60kgs) on an 10km uphill—I should know I ride home with one of these almost everyday. But you know what? I think most of the respected brands’ models can last long enough if they are really taken care of. AND OH!!! I almost forgot. Mercedes-Benz 190E, few episodes in Fifth Gear tried to kill that Merc, but I just wouldn’t die. Early Mercs are bullet proof (figuratively of course, don’t try shooting one).
