I was also in my early 20s in the mid to late 2010s. Like most people, I was a fan of ,pop music from the radio, such as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Adele, Sam Smith, The Weeknd, One Direction, Fifth Harmony, BTS, Dua Lipa, and Billie Eilish. I was also a fan of ,classic rock, and ,modern rock, artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and U2. There were some ,up-and-coming pop artists, from the 2010s that were popular for college-aged people that I also like such as AJR, Bea Miller, Khalid, Lauv, Bazzi, Sasha Alex Sloan, Daya, Zara Larsson, Troye Sivan, and Surfaces. There were also ,viral songs from YouTube, that some young adults like such as “Gangham Style,” “Nyan Cat Song,” “Harlem Shake,” and “What Does the Fox Say.” My study go-to music was ,lofi chillhop music,, popularized by YouTube channels including Lofi Girl and Chillhop Music, that featured artists such as Philanthrope, Idealism, Juan Rios, and Blue Wednesday. I also studied by listening to ,classical music, composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Grieg. I was starting to learn more about ,alternative/indie rock, and ,pop punk, by listening to albums and Spotify playlists when I was in my 20s, such as Tame Impala, The Black Keys, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, Radiohead, Muse, Oasis, The Killers, Interpol, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks, Local Natives, The Wonder Years, The Story So Far, Neck Deep, Sunny Day Real Estate, Death Cab for Cutie, and Jimmy Eat World. I was also fascinated by ,EDM DJs, such as Martin Garrix, Avicii, Kygo, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Tiesto, Gryffin, Axwell x Ingrosso, and Skylar Spence (formerly known as Saint Pepsi). There are some young people who are fans of ,emo rap, artists such as Lil Peep, XXXTENTACION, Juice WRLD, Trippie Redd, and Kodak Black, other ,hip-hop artists, such as Drake, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, Lecrae, J Cole, Rae Sremmurd, and MIGOS, and ,contemporary R&B artists, such as Alicia Keys, John Legend, Jhene Aiko, Ella Mai, H.E.R., Daniel Caesar, Miguel, Jeremih, Solange, Frank Ocean, and Jazmine Sullivan. I got to experience listening to ,indie folk, and ,singer/songwriter, artists such as The Lumineers, Vance Joy, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Of Monsters and Men, The Head & The Heart, and Freedom Fry. When I approach my mid to late 20s, I am currently learning more about the ,Triple A format, (e.g. Alanis Morrissette, Fiona Apple, Jack Johnson, Jeff Buckley, John Mayer, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Sarah McLachlan), ,metalcore,, ,post-hardcore,, ,midwest emo, (e.g. American Football), ,synthwave,, ,vaporwave,, ,blues rock,, ,viral songs from TikTok,, and ,pop music from the UK,. The early 20s is a great time to explore different music genres beside pop music from the radio because Internet streaming is a great place to discover genres that you can’t find on the radio, such as classic rock, modern rock, up-and-coming pop, viral songs from YouTube, lofi chillhop, classical, alternative/indie rock, pop punk, EDM, emo rap, hip-hop, contemporary R&B, indie folk, singer/songwriter music, and many more. It is also a great time to start listening to more albums than singles because albums are a great place to learn more about any artist that you are interested in while singles are usually songs that are for promoting the album. However, it’s never too late to start exploring different music genres because it’s never too late to learn new things.
