They are all pretty tough. The Toyota has a reputation as a third world gun platform for a reason. I have a couple of friends who have driven Rangers and have thrown them down plenty of fire trails. The new Mitsubishi Triton could also be on the list (even tho the engine is small at 2.4lt, the variable geometry turbo gives decent power and economy). Don't be too worried about going an automatic either. They auto gearboxes these days are quite tough, and the new terrain response modes you are getting in them are really good.
So long as the car has been averagely looked after, not thrashed, hasn’t towed anything too heavy and there isn’t too much rust your best bets are a Toyota Hilux or a Volvo 240. Toyota Hilux The Toyota Hilux is biblically reliable! This is mainly due to it’s simplicity as Toyota went for the less stuff, less to go wrong option. The early Hilux were built body on frame which means you can change parts pretty easy. There are only two real problems that face a Hilux, rust and its lack of any kind of refinement. If you want a reliable workhorse their is no better vehicle. If you want proof of Hilux reliability just look at the price of a Hilux pre 2000’s on autotrader or look at rebel forces using them on the BBC news at ten. The one to go for: Pre-2004 with little rust upto about 150,000 miles. Volvo 240 Volvo 240’s are also very reliable often racking up to 400,000 miles mostly original parts. This car is so good due to it’s very robust engine and build quality. It will never win any beauty pageants or surprise you with power but it has a small cult following and has a cool retro feel. Only advice is to check it’s history and try to get one on a low mileage and carry some spare bulbs and fuses as these tend to go on 240s quite a bit. In the US the Turbo 240’s are sort after as they make incredible sleeper cars. The 240 is also pretty safe when compared with other cars from this era. The one to go for: Later models had less faults and will most likely be in better condition. All engines are reliable. Just choose between the DL, GL and SE trims.
I would not say i am a huge car fan but i like this question and heres my list. German: Audi RS5 It just looks like such a fun car to drive. That along with the fact that Audis are known for being technologically advanced cars would make for one great driving experience. I would definitely take it over any Benz or BMW. United States: Dodge Durango The only reason this is on the list is because I can not think of a car I would take of this from the US. It's a decent looking SUV though. It looks powerful. United Kingdom: Bentley Continental GT Possibly the prettiest supercar in the world. It is has a comfortable looking interior and seems pretty futuristic. It is fast, stylish and not too flashy. I couldn't ask for more. Italy: Pagani Huayra BC This hypercar is an absolute beast. 6Litre twin turbo V12 engine producing 745 horsepower. 132KG lighter giving a power to weight ratio of 1.62Kg/HP. 0-100Km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 370Km/h. A $3.7 Million price tag. Ridiculous numbers for a very impressive car. It may not be the fastest car in the world but it just might be the craziest. Japan: Toyota Hilux Who can deny a good, reliable and trustworthy Toyota Hilux? It has got to be the best 4x4 truck in the world.
It already does. ,Toyota Hilux
I've heard pickup trucks are really rare in Europe. Is that just in the cities or in rural areas too? I’m in very rural France. Industry here is agriculture and tourism. There are plenty of pick-ups about. Mainly Toyota Hilux, the Mitusibishi L200s, ford Rangers, Land-rovers and similar. They’re almost all turbo diesels., and almost all of them are working vehicles, full of tools, cement, sheep, ski lift parts, etc. There are very few new shiny, blinged up fashion statement pick-ups. They very often have a trailer as well. But this is the deep countryside. If we want a town with over 4000 people, we’ve 90 minutes drive to do.
Toyota Hilux from any generation. It's undeniably one of the most reliable cars ever created. It has plenty of space inside. It has a more than good capacity to carry things in the bed. It has a decent fuel economy (turbo diesel engine) and it has enough power to drive at ‘high’ speeds as well as to move objects from the road. It is reliable but is also one of the best selling cars in the entire world. This means getting spare parts will be easy no matter where I am. I wouldn't consider anything else.
I believe that the HiLux is rarely seen in the US and probably has the steering wheel on the wrong side of the dash. It’s also a diesel if I’m not mistaken. The Ranger is produced in the US and in southeast Asian plants. The American Ranger has a 2.3 turbo gasoline engine w/10 speed auto. The HiLux is probably offered with a manual and an auto. The Ranger sold in Britain is available with a six speed manual and an auto. As much as I personally prefer a manual I’m in no mood for a dinky four cylinder diesel of any kind. Give me the USA Ranger.
I would ask the Toyota dealer what he would recommend unless you know some farmers that have them.
No, Toyota Hilux doesn't have Steering Adjustment Electric.
No, Toyota Hilux isn't available in AUX.
No, Toyota Hilux doesn't have Euro NCAP Rating.
