MRF and Ceat are by far the sturdiest tyres. They take a lot of beating but this also means they are hard and make the most road noise. They also have lower mechanical grip. These are also the cheapest Apollo is in the middle. They have good grip but also last well though lower than Ceat, MRF and JK. Apollo also have a JV with Michelin though i dont know if fruits of the JV have hit the road. My Baleno has Apollo Alnac 4G and i have had one slow puncture in 17000km Bridgestone has better grip and lower road noise but are softer and more prone to punctures. That being said, my previous car, a Swift came with Bridgestone s280 (i think) snd they didnt have any issues through 13000km. That being said, my swift didnt go to as many construction sites as my Baleno. I would rate Yoko in the same range as Bridgestone though i dont have too much experience with them. Yoko has now come out with the Earth series which is supposed to save fuel (which automatically means its harder, less grippy and noisier) Michelin have the grippiest tyres with the least noise and are also the softest and least puncture resistant Now there is the small issue of size. If you have the l and v trims and dont intend to go for alloys, you need to get the 165/80 R14 tyres and you have a wide selection- Apollo, MRF, JK, Bridgestone and Michelin. I would suggest Bridgestone though. The stock rims take 175/70 r14 tyres if you are intending to go that way. If you are going to upgrade your rims, go for alloys with a 5.5″ width (stock rims are 5″). Then you can go for 185/70 r14. If you have the z trim, you need 185/65 r15 tyres. Here go for the softer tyres For further details and research of wider tyres, lookup tyre upsizing on Google. Do remember that the wider or lower profile tyres make the ride stiffer and also limit tyre manufacturers. Also dont take a 5.5″ rim for 165 tyres as the reduction in sidewall bulge will make the ride really uncomfortable
145 /80 R12 is Original fitment tyres. First number from the left: 145 is width in mm. Second number from the left is the percentage of width to show the profile/sidewall height. Example: 80% of 145mm is 116mm which is the height of the sidewall. R stands for Radial type construction. Third number from the left indicated the size of the rim, in this case the rim size is 12 inch. You can opt of Ceat Milaze/Ceat Milaze X3/Ceat Fuel Smart, MRF ZVTS/ MRF ZCT/ MRF ZLX, JK tyres Ultima neo/ JK tyres Ultima NXT/ JK tyres Ultima XP/ JK tyres Ultima XPC. These tyres offer good tyre life and are suitable for city usage. If you are looking for city use + occasional touring Bridgestone B250/ Bridgestone B290, Yokohama Earth One E400, Goodyear Ducaro Hi- Miller, Michelin Energy XM2 are good options as these offer better grip, breaking and handling on high- speed situations. Note: Whichever brand you pick, pick up tyres with DOT within a year or max 2 years with proper storage such as cool, dry, dark storage. If the tyres are not stored in the proper conditions, the tyres aren’t going to give you the performance you are looking for in all aspects. Hope this helps! Please feel free to share your opinions… :)
With a 3.5 inch lift and 35 inch tires. The tires will run you around $2,400, the smaller the rim the cheaper the tire, some 15 inch rims will fit on a jk which could bring the price down significantly, but 15 inch rims have their own issues. The sweet spot is a 17 inch rim. Also the stock tire carrier isn’t meant for a 35+ inch tire and will start to warp your tail gate so plan on getting a tire carrier as well. Depending on the lift kit the parts alone will run 500–4000 and unless you install it your self, another 700–1500 for the install. Another thing to think about are all the weak stock parts. Your tie rod, trac bar, drag link, and ball joints will go probably within 6 months even just city driving. Also since you have a sport S I’m assuming you have the 3.21 gearing will will put a lot of stress on your transmission and engine. So if you add a re-gear thats another 1500–2500. Also at 3.5, even moderate off-roading, your drive shafts will have a limited life span and the CV boot will most likely tear before long. So another 800 for new drive shafts. Putting large tires on a jeep be prepared to drop the coin to buy heavy duty parts or you will run into headaches like death wobble in the future. That being said, it’s totally worth it :) I have a 2016 Rubicon Unlimited Hard Rock 6 speed manual with 5.13 gears, front and gear truss & gusset, 3.5 rock krawler xfactor lift, fox 2.0 shocks, and 325/65/18 toyo at’s on fuel octane rims. Synergy tie rod, Synergy Drag link, Dynatrac ball joints, and Adams rear drive shaft are all on the way currently, which added up to an additional $1,500
