GAC Honda has unveiled its new SUV called the Breeze, essentially a clone of the Dongfeng-manufactured Honda CR-V. The copy stays almost identical to the original in terms of dimensions. At 4,634 millimeters (15.2 ft.) long, it is 49 mm (1.9 inches) longer, but that is about it. Restyled elements include the headlights, the front grille, and both bumpers. The engine palette likewise stays unchanged. The Sport Turbo version ships with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 193 hp (144 kW) and 243 Nm (179 pound-feet) of torque, mated to a CVT transmission. The Sport Hybrid packs the i-MMD powertrain good for 215 hp (160 kW) and 315 Nm (232 lb-ft) total. Higher trim versions ship with the Honda Sensing safety package and the second-gen Honda Connect multimedia service. This is not the first time Honda produces clones: for example, the U.S.-sold Honda Passport is actually a badge-engineered Honda Pilot. The Breeze is a CR-V based SUV targeted at various Asian markets. Not sure it is is more expensive than the regular HR-V or not. Or if it just replaces it in some markets. The CR-V is due for a facelift very soon. And this design looks like it could work as a CR-V mid-cycle refresh but other spy pictures of prototypes show very small changes for the refreshed CR-V in the US. The latest Honda CR-V boasts bold and sophisticated new styling, a more spacious, sporty, and premium quality interior. The CR-V offers the model’s first-ever turbo engine, and a host of new features and technologies for improved connectivity, comfort, and advanced active safety. Available in 2WD or AWD, 5 or 7 seats, and offering class-leading space for passengers and cargo, the CR-V is the ultimate family SUV. There's more of everything to choose from in the CR-V, with the latest connectivity, including Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, 2WD or AWD, 5 or 7 seats, and a turbo engine providing more power and better fuel economy. The CR-V AWD models offer the full suite of Honda's most advanced Sensing Safety technologies. The CR-V Sport models add a luxury leather interior, heated front seats, driver seat memory system, panoramic sunroof, and much more. All CR-V models have a 5 Star ANCAP safety rating and come with a 5-year warranty, unlimited km, and 24/7 national roadside assistance. In the US, an updated CR-V was shown just last month with new looks and a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, but Honda’s local division has remained hush on whether this new mid-size SUV will arrive Down Under. Given the hybrid version is built in the US, and that the North American Honda outfit operates more-or-less independently from international markets, Australia will likely miss out on that version of the SUV. In terms of powertrain, the US CR-V hybrid pairs a 2.0-liter petrol engine with a pair of electric motor for a total output of 158kW, which is just 18kW more than the power figure of the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant found in Australian-spec vehicles. From the outside, the new US-market CR-V sports a revised front bumper, larger front grille, and more chrome exterior highlights. Over in China though, the reveal of the mechanically related Breeze SUV could also point the way forward for Australia’s next CR-V, which is built and sourced from a facility in Thailand. With an Accord-like front styling, slim head- and tail-lights, and a blacked-out tailgate treatment instead of chrome, a Breeze-like update to the Australian CR-V could give it an aesthetic shot in the arm, differentiating it from its Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage rivals. The Breeze also comes with Honda’s Sensing safety suite, which includes autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control, while other standard equipment includes a widescreen multimedia system, wireless phone charger, and power-operated tailgate. With the same width and height as the CR-V, a Breeze-style update could work for Australian-spec Honda mid-size SUVs. In overseas markets, the Breeze is available with the same 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine as Australian vehicles, but a 2.0-liter hybrid will also come online.
